Research Topic - 5th Year Visit to the City Archives

On Monday 21st of November, 5th Year students visited the City Archives, Pearse St, as part of their preparation for their Research Topic. This was preceeded by a vist to a specialist bookstore and a brief stop off at 'The Mansion House' where the 1st Dail was held in 1919.

At the archives, students were given reader cards and introduced to researching methods, including working with newspaper and book catalogues and using microfilm/microfiche. Students benifited from the day and returned to class with interesting research and ideas for their projects. Thanks to all those at the City Archives for the tour, their help and the above photo.

Good Luck to all History students in their Leaving Certificate History Exam!

Remember to

  • Pace yourself - Keep to your time plan.

  • Plan your essays (brainstorm of key terms)

  • A lot of marks can be picked up on the Case Studies and US History (if you are doing that option). Know these well.

  • Read the essay questions carefully, underline the key words and make sure each paragraph in your essay relates back to the key words in the question. Echo back these key words in a variety of different ways.

Mock History Exams 2011

Best of luck students in your exam on Friday. Watch your timing and carefully consider which questions you are suited to answering. This can be the difference between an honour and a pass. All those who are nervous about the honours paper, give it your best shot and we will assess your result after the exam.
Please bring in your Research Topic notes on Tuesday. I promise to have your mock papers corrected and we will revise the paper in class.
